Why is alkalising so Important?

With modern life being so busy, stressful and toxic, we are prone to eating too much fast food, too much pesticide and herbicide treated foods and too much processed foods – not enough healthy, fresh, pesticide free foods.  Overeating and consuming unhealthy foods such as breads, sugars, take-away, soft drinks, and alcohol, is the main reason that we become over acidic or in a state of acidosis.

The acid-alkaline balance of our bodies is crucial for overall health.  Our bodies are constantly working hard to maintain an ideal pH.  Ideal pH of human blood is slightly alkaline at 7.365pH.  Even minor variations in blood pH is dangerous, which is why the body works so hard to buffer the blood and maintain correct pH at all costs.

It is necessary for the human body to be in an alkaline state for its biochemical reactions to occur optimally.  If there is an increase in acidity, the body will attempt to correct this by neutralizing the pH with alkaline minerals found in the body – magnesium, calcium, potassium etc.  These minerals must be “borrowed” from other places in the body such as muscles and bones.  This then weakens the function of the muscles and bones, as they now do not have enough mineral to function optimally – if not replaced causes long term damage such as Osteoporosis, Muscle Cramping etc. The excess acids must then be eliminated from the body. This process is completed by the kidneys.  Excess acid filtration through the kidneys leave them weakened and susceptible to long term kidney damage.  Not surprisingly this leaves our body in a reduced state of health.

An imbalance in body pH can be the root of many common symptoms – such as constipation, poor digestion, aches and pains, heartburn, headaches, frequent colds (as acid environments are a breading ground for bugs), fatigue and sleeplessness just to name a few.

Cooking changes most vegetables from alkaline to acidic to be sure to eat a range of both and try not to kill your veggies too much..

If you are currently eating an acid-forming diet, a gradual transition to a more alkaline-forming diet is advised.
